National Geographic World Atlas App Reviews

Im mourning over a great loss

Ive loved this app for years. They managed to take a spectacular atlas, remove all of the beautiful detail and transform it into a worthless AAA road map. Sorry you positive reviewers never got to see what was once a truly beautiful app. Signing off and deleting.

The update ruined this app

Do no buy this app My gps cant put a pin on where I am Go back to the previous version

Stay Away

This used to be a terrific app, allowing users to explore interesting regions of the world in fine detail. At some point the designers did away with that feature, leaving only maps showing large. Using a free map app is really much better. If you want the annoying pop up information this app supplies, you are much better with an Internet search. Until the original features are restored, dont waste your money!

Why did NG DEGRADE their product

Was one of my favorite apps. However, the "upgrade" greatly diminished the product. Why would NG do that? Pressured by some other company to give a view of the terrain from 50,000 feet, and not the earlier version which have much close up views of roads etc. I paid $1.99 for the upgraded version only to learn that the map level was useless!!!!

Upgrades killed a great app

The upgrades killed a great app. Clunky and hard to use. Its impossible to understand why Nat Geo would do this. Do NOT waste your time or money.

Do not purchase

Used to be great. they upgraded it to point that it is useless. okay for a very high level view of somewhere. I bought it and it was great. Now i am deleting it and looking for another app.

Oh why did they change this?

Every time there is a new update I anxiously update HOPING it will go back to when it worked so well....when I could zoom in on places and it would actually work and you could see the borders, and when every time you clicked off a country description it didnt completely unzoom from wherever you were. Ah the good old days. Its clearly an issue with a lot of people, so WHY would they keep it the same way? Only good part now is the random facts.

A good basic reference globe.

It is handy for overall geographical information.

Buyer Beware: useless app

Used to be my favorite app. Now its unusable

What happened?

This used to be a great app, now you cant even explore any destination in detail, something is wrong with the distance application

Junk

Before the update It use to show you where you where. Now nothing. Not what I paid for. Refund please

Used to be a Great App, Not Now

This was my go-to app when traveling to get the big picture. No more. After a long period of neglect, it was updated to a poor shell of what it had been. Not recommended, unfortunately.

World wide corporate pilot

You guys ruined The Map The Map The Map. I used this app to obtain information for some of the places we fly to. For example Im flying Paris and want to know what towns are near Paris, I cant zoom in anymore. This is absolutely worthless to me, its now suitable for 7th grade geography class. Thanks

This upgrade substitutes slickness for substance.

The maps are lower resolution. My pins have been erased. There is no option to download more detailed maps for offline use. Who needs trivia? If I could restore the previous version Id do so in New York minute. Id even pay for the privilege. This is a very disappointing version of what was a terrific app. And, it has gotten even more unusable with annoying boxes popping up unexpectedly. I think the positive reviews are suspect

Netvate

Wonderful app, but lacking in my opinion, features. Its too simple for a paid app. Considering national geographics standing, I was expecting more, seems like it should be the free version... Hopefully they will add many more features to make it worth the $1.99.

Good basic world atlas

Ive spent morning looking for decent world atlas app (even tried a simple screenshot of world map to keep as reference on phone, obvious limitations) and so far Ive felt relief with this app. Easy to navigate globe. Compass doesnt reorient every time I (easily) zoom or travel. There are basic country stats (and I can look elsewhere for more). No distracting desert or topiary colored background. I see recent reviews of app are mostly high or decent rating and like many of these I have no previous version of app to compare to and thus no baggage (re cool features lost). Probably just what I need for having ready access to map I can view off or online and follow news etc. Wants: PLEASE ALLOW larger text size for stats, let me change in settings. Dont know how to add a new pin category on fly (or at all), guess Ill throw them in favorites, seems limited. Wish it didnt lose my zoom view often when I explore stats or other. Suppose Ill use with Google Earth for detail and other sites for in-depth country history/stats/photos.

Best World Atlas

This World Atlas is exactly what I was looking for. Beautiful maps, great search ability, and works perfectly on my iPhone 6+. The detail is the classic NatGeo maps. If I want to see street level or zoom in from the sky I use Google Earth. The apps are right next to each other on my phone. Thanks NatGeo!

Daily notifications

I like the app with atlas offline. The daily notification is very annoying and there is no button to turn off. Otherwise I will give a five instead of three. Thx.

Love it!

I did not have the earlier version that everyone seems to be so upset about loosing so I cant speak to that. I love this version. Its a tech version of a traditional map! I loved maps as a kid and I love this app! Easy to use, visually stunning and as I said, turns a your globe into a live action experience! Everything I was looking for!

Great world atlas at a reasonable price

For two bucks, you can get National Geographics clear and useful political mapping of the world in a convenient, intuitive user interface. Im not sure what all the complaining is about in the reviews for it. No, its not Google Earth; you can only zoom in so far, and there arent a ton of distracting details. It works perfectly for what I wanted: A way to quickly look at how countries and their major features (rivers, cities, larger towns, etc.) fit in with each other on the planet.
